Russia attempted to hack voting systems

Postby JuicedTruth » June 6th, 2017, 8:15 am

It was reported widely yesterday that the FBI arrested a government contractor for leaking classified intelligence to the press. While that's news in and of itself, the information she leaked was about Russia's efforts to hack into voting systems. This is something that was previously speculated but wasn't supported by evidence. We still don't know if they were successful in any of those efforts but we do now know that clear efforts were made by the Russian government.

Doesn't that make you feel cozy knowing how closely Trump is intertwined with Russia?

Voting machines are not connected to the internet. So there is no way to hack into anything.

I don't think either of us are voting systems experts, but the individual machines not being on a network does not mean any piece of the voting system isn't.

That isn't the story though. It may come to that but the story is that the Russian government was making attempts to access voting systems. It's less of what they did, because we don't know, and more that they tried to do it.

The Putin/Trump alliance has managed to do more damage to the United States in 6 months than did the former Soviet Union during the whole of the cold war. Our elected representatives stand by and do nothing, putting party ahead of country.

It is amazing that we have information about a foreign country hacking into our election campaign and the party in power tries to bury the investigation, and the president appears to be more interested in his legacy being untarnished, then the truth being uncovered. And talkers on Salem and Fox blame the Democrats for having poor internet security, not the nation doing the hacking.

I think the voter roles are and they could be purged and I a told if that is just before election day, that could cause a disaster.

That's what I thought. It sounds like the media are just trying to stir things up.

Again, you guys miss the point. The point right now isn't whether or not they were successful, that will be investigated. The point is that they tried to do it. We have more than enough evidence now that Russia was heavily involved in attempts to influence the election through illegal and hostile activities. They are clearly not an ally of the U.S. and are trying to undermine democracy throughout the world. Yet the current administration treats them better than we treat our true allies. The President has held closed-door meetings with Russian officials, has more private meetings planned, sought to end the FBI investigation of his National Security Adviser, who was being investigated for his ties to Russia, had his Attorney General recuse himself over his own failures to disclose meetings with Russian operatives, and who's son-in-law and senior adviser is also being investigated based on his own failures to disclose meetings with Russia, including a meeting where he attempted to set up backdoor communication channels to Russia.

The question is why has Trump been so accommodating to Russia and slow to criticize them despite their clear hostility towards the U.S. and our traditional allies?

This boils down to one thing.......the Russians ( Putin) hate Hillary. Period.
Harm her in any way possible.

Oh, it doesn't bother you that the Obama administration was spying on people involved with the Trump campaign?
And other Americans since 2011?

It doesn't remotely boil down to that. They might have hated Hillary but they were also saw in Trump, someone they could manipulate, directly or indirectly through his staff.

They probably also saw an unqualified idiot who has no idea what he's doing, but that's just them being smarter than many American voters. Russia knew Trump was way better for Russia's world standing than Hillary.
